A mixed weekend for the club. The Cs and Ds both had great wins; this sets up both teams for a crack at the finals. The As and Bs both lost defending small first innings totals after fielding depleted teams with players still away.
As 105 & 5/40 def by Brighton 258
Not a good day at the office for the As playing the top side in the division. Thilanka bowled well to take 3 wickets and 'could easily have had six' according to Charlie Giles, who put in a trojan effort (with Shawry injured) to bowl 26 overs straight. We want to get back on track next game against Unley who are only a win above us on the ladder.
Bs 126 def by Penfield Central Districts 283
The Bs made things hard for themselves by failing to post a competitive total after being 2-85 at tea. Patto was the best of the bats with 55. While the game was over by tea on the second day, the boys toiled and never dropped their bundle to bowl Penfield out and get maximum bowling points. Nick Kokoschko (4-66) got some early breakthroughs to give us some hope. Gihan, in his first game in the Bs, bowled a consistent line and was thus rewarded (8 overs, 2-7) and Shiv chipped in at the end (2-21). Nick Thomson continued to impress since coming up and bowled a great line (15 overs, 1-28). Just as with the As, a must-win game at Unley next-up.
Cs 169 & 5/60 def Grange 91
A good win against top 4 opposition was set-up on the first day by a good team performance with the bat: Shanith (34), Mihiranga (40), Kerin (20), Modra (17) and Gav Carter (17) steered the team to 169 and then the boys snared a wicket in the final overs of the first day. They pushed their advantage on day 2 and never let Grange into the match. Janaka again put in a sensational performance bowling tight areas (9 overs, 5-14). He was well supported by Kasun (3-30) who followed up his bowling success with a tidy 29no in the 2nd innings.
D Grade 8/253 defeated Adelaide Uni 119
The Ds had a big, percentage boosting win against Adelaide Uni. Amal was unstoppable with the bat scoring 130 in 30 overs for his maiden century for the club. Dharshana added 32 with other players chipping in to build our big score. Clarky did the early damage (3/20) with the ball and then Damith cleaned up with 5/42. Only dropped catches stopped us having an even bigger win.
